Find Your best Colours

Colour Your World

I love  that moment of magic where a person, their clothes, make up, hair all come together and you can see that they feel wonderful.  This is your journey.  Let’s talk about what suits you.  Your needs and style and fashion goals.

Knowing your colours is the key to having a fabulous wardrobe, outfits, make up, glasses, jewellery, shoes.  Once we know your palette, we explore colour choices for your life.  We plan clothes and make up that you will love.

Welcome to Sartorial Bliss

Long ago I discovered that I love helping people to have perfect outfits!  And what I love even more is teaching them to style themselves so that they can wear perfect outfits every day for the rest of their lives!  So I left my career in internet marketing and studied colour and image with every one that I could find, my search for good training led me to the UK where the industry was pioneered and they are still market leaders.  I now live in Australia and happily do colour analysis on any one I can get my hands on!  I am obsessed.  I do colour analysis both in the flesh and online, so don’t worry if you don’t live near me, we can still sort you out.

Knowing what suits your colouring and how to build great outfits based around those colours is like having half the style battle won.  You know what to avoid, you know what will always look good.  You know what make up to buy and how to wear it.  You know how to use colour to look polished, or dramatic, or dynamic, or in control.  When colour is used well it is a very powerful tool.

Welcome to Sartorial Bliss from Katie

Spend a little time on yourself

Every day all over the world billions of people start the day by getting dressed. When your day starts, start it confidently, beautifully in your right colours with flattering outfits and all for the cost of a winter coat.

What to Expect in your Colour Consult

  • Generally the consult will take about 2-3 hours. We can meet at your place, or at my rooms or over the internet.
  • We can cover what ever you want to know. Whatever burning questions that you have about colour, we will answer.
  • Generally we start with a quick discussion of the theory of colour – light versus dark, clear versus soft, warm versus cool.  All colours lie somewhere between warm and cool, light and dark and clear and soft, and so does our colouring.
  • We will talk about your colouring and what colours suit you.  Typically this involves the use of some coloured drapes that we lay under chin.  This allows us to see how different types of colours interact with your colouring.  You will find a remarkable difference between certain colours and how they look on you.  For example if you have cool colouring the warm colours will not harmonise well with you, they will often give a funny orange glow to your skin that sits on your face like bad fake tan.  It is amazing to compare different types of colours and to really look at how they look on you.
  • Once we have gathered some information about how different colours look on you, then we will often be able to describe your colouring, for example we might say you look best in colours that are warm, rather than cool, and quite deep and strong.  Or we might find that you do not have much of a warm cool bias, being able to wear less extreme colours from both groups, but that you look fabulous in light and slightly hazy colours.  For ease of reference I use either the tonal system or a seasonal system to categorize colourings.  For example, if you were best in warm and dark colours, you would be categorized as an autumn, and perhaps even more specifically a deep autumn.
  • We will then discuss what this means in terms of your wardrobe choices.  If you very much like neutral colours, such as white, grey, navy, brown etc or need to wear them in a work environment then we will make sure that we fully discuss them and what your best light, dark and medium netural choices.  We will discuss which neutrals will be best to invest in for shoes for summer and winter, what jewellery colours will work best and make up.  We will also discuss all your accent or fashion colours and how you can use them in your wardrobe.  And some people choose to wear mostly accent colours.
  • Lastly I like to look at make up choices.  Different colourings often look good in different intensities of make up.  And it is especially important if you are warm or cool to get make up that matches your skin tone.

“My partner and I had a really fun morning with Katie, working out our best colours, trying out makeup and chatting about personal style. Whether you love colour and want to refine your colour palette, help prevent online shopping disasters, or solve the mystery of why some colours make you look a million bucks, while others make you look like a zombie you will get a lot out of a consult with the lovely Katie.”

“Katie did an amazing job helping me find my colours. Our shopping expedition was so much fun and opened my eyes to colours and patterns I would not have thought suited me. She was so professional but also so supportive in our quest to find the pieces I needed for my wardrobe. I am extremely grateful for connecting with Katie..”

“I was pleasantly surprised with the total approach with my colour consult – Katie took the time to really get to know me, the overall experience was super positive & I came away understanding more of what works for me in colour & style & actually why! Katie’s real & empathetic approach (we are all a little self conscious) assisted me feel more comfortable in my own skin! I’ve since recommended Katie to my friends knowing how she was with me, made this super easy to do! Thank you ! Sharon H – Tasmania, Australia.”

I get very bored of jeans and jumpers when working from home in winter, but they are warm. But I find that having some fun cuts of jeans helps. These ones are very wide from the bottom down and high waisted so they make my legs feel long. I sized up from my usual size to get room in the waist, I often find highwaisted pants feel tight around my middle. Jeans: zaraBelt: zaraJumper: St frock ... See MoreSee Less

This was another shot from our Editorial Master's Training at the Australian Style Institute. I attended last month and it was an amazing experience. We worked with clothing from exciting Melbourne designers and had real editorial photographers (Jason Lau]) and a fantastic model, @annaleisehoustn, and we had to decide what to dress her in, how we wanted her hair and make up done and what poses we wanted. This one was one I was really keen on - a mirror shot. And as we were scoping out for a shoot location we came across an abandoned shop with a mirror type glass in the front window. Bam! Step One - Needs

You tell me exactly what you want and what you want to know.  If you want to know how to use colour at work, or what colours will help you in your love life, then speak up.  If you want to understand how to use colour as you put together a killer work wardrobe then tell me and we will make a list of your particular points of interest and I will make sure that we cover them really thoroughly.  This is important because we cover a lot of material in a colour consultation and it is hard to take it all in in detail, so if I know what you really want to understand I will spend more time on that and give you notes and homework on those topics!

Step Four - Explore

Once we know your most flattering group of colours or ‘season’ then we explore it. We look at your best light and dark neutrals, accent colours, jewellery colours etc.
